My argument on Plastic Surgery

My argument on Plastic Surgery
In the article, I have chosen it talks about how women undergo surgery to impress the opposite sex or to be happy within themselves. However the argument is more towards why do we need to look better for someone else? As a young woman growing up, I was taught that it is your inner beauty that a man looks for.  Therefore, for me to see other young women and older women paying money to get their outer beauty changed makes me wonder if I was taught right. Cosmetic surgery is becoming very popular across the world.  In an interview conducted in a study it was said that getting a simple face-lift makes them feel new. If women keep changing their looks, aren’t they losing themselves? After all the fights, women go thorough to get equal rights in America, then why do they listen to what men say? I plan to use all the information I find to answer these questions and to help my argument have a better understanding.
I really don’t know what else I need to look for. I’m having a hard time putting together my research.

  1. HI Jerann,

    Consider this outline:

    1) What is ideal beauty? (Is there a case study that you may open with like the face lift you describe above OR what about a procedure and what it entails). You want to grab the audience's attention. Transition into your argument -- Women have plastic surgery such as ..... because of male consumption.

    2) Explore some of the popular plastic surgeries (e.g. Spend a couple of paragraphs developing popular procedures like labiaplasty and breast augmentation. Describe what these procedures entail). This is where you will bring in some of the research that you have found.

    3) Bring in Valenti. What does she have to say about these procedures? Explore some of the reasons why women would want to alter their bodies.

    4) Think about the implication of these procedures (e.g. Earlier in the paper, you may think about describing an ad for young women where they may have to alter their bodies in some way or another -- which furthers the idea that we are fine the way we are).

    Hope this helps!
